We are ALWAYS searching for energetic, dedicated individuals to serve their community. From Firefighting to Fundraising, Administration to Junior Firefighters, or Fire Police to the Ladies Auxiliary, The West Hazleton Fire Department has a place for you!

Although our benefit’s package may not measure up to those of other jobs, what WE could offer YOU is beyond a paycheck. The pride of being a part of the Best Fire Department in the area, the satisfaction of helping others in their time of need, the joy of being part of a “Family”.

If you choose to become a Volunteer Firefighter, Fire Police Officer, or Fire Photographer, we offer the BEST training and equipment available. Every active member receives FREE training and the most up to date Personal Protective Equipment available, all free of charge. But keep in mind, becoming a Volunteer Firefighter is challenging and time consuming commitment! It takes hundreds of hours of training, and the ability to work in harsh conditions. You must be physically fit, and in good health. But the rewards are countless!

If you are unable to commit to the training it takes to become a Firefighter, we still need your help! Operating a Fire Department is an expensive adventure, and money is needed to protect West Hazleton’s Bravest. We operate numerous fund raisers throughout the year, and help is needed to assist with these! We are looking for energetic people, from the young to the elderly, to raise funds to keep your community and neighbors safe from Fires.

The Ladies Auxiliary assists the Firefighters in many ways. From helping raise funds, planning Fire Company Social Functions, to making sure that the Firefighter’s are taken care of during Fire’s and Training Sessions. The Ladies Auxiliary is comprised of family and friends of members of the Fire Company. With their help, the Firefighters could concentrate on the most important thing, and that is training to protect us and civilians.

The Junior Firefighter program is open to children ages 14 to 18. The benefits of starting in our Junior Firefighter program are numerous. It serves as a great foundation for children to build upon, including discipline, confidence building, moral, and an emphasis on school work and shaping their futures. All of this, plus helping your neighbors! Numerous Firefighters that started off in our Junior Firefighter program have moved on to Career Paid Firefighter Positions throughout the Country, including Fairfax County Virginia, Tampa Florida, and the United States Department of Defense. The WHFD also has computer and Internet access for all members, including juniors.

The West Hazleton Fire Department does not discriminate, and is looking for volunteers of any race or gender. We are a diverse group, and are always striving to recruit more people to move us forward. Everyone has a certain talent to offer, why don’t you consider the West Hazleton Fire Department?

If you are interested in becoming a member, you may print out an application for membership online, and return it to the Fire Station, or stop by and see us! Every applicant for Senior Membership must also fill out and submit a Criminal Background Check through the Pennsylvania State Police. That is your only fee! We are a public service, and need to assure that we are only accepting the best of humanity. Please take note on the Criminal History Application that the response will be mailed directly to the Fire Company. Simply fill it out, and attach a certified check or money order. Once we receive the response from the State Police, your application can be further processed. Although a prior record does not exempt you for membership, all applicants go through a vigorous back ground and reference Check. For Junior Applicants, parental consent is required for membership, and also you must attain working papers from your school.
